What To Do with Your Pets When You Travel

You might think that it’s just not possible to have both pets and to go traveling. It has to be either one or the other. The truth is that, as long as you plan ahead, you can actually enjoy the companionship of a pet, whether that’s a dog, cat, rodent, reptile, or anything else – and see the world on your magical adventures. Here are some ways it can be done.

Find A Pet Sitter

A pet sitter is an excellent idea and one that can give you a lot of peace of mind and ensure that you can enjoy your trip without worrying about your pet at all. A pet sitter is essentially someone who will come to your home and feed your pet, let them out into the yard, walk them or exercise them, give them some company, and then go again. They’ll come to your home every day and check that all is well. To make things even simpler for them and more comfortable for your pet, you can install a sliding pet door so that, even when there is no one around, your dog or cat can still come and go as they please.

If you prefer to have someone with your pet all the time, you can hire a house sitter. Similar to a pet sitter, the house sitter will live in your home while you’re away. Not only will they take care of your animals, but they’ll also take care of your home, keeping it safe from any potential threats.

Neighborhood Pet Swap

Do you have any next-door neighbors or people living nearby, on the same street, or in the same town that you know and trust? Do they have any animals? Everyone enjoys taking vacations throughout the year, and these friends and acquaintances will likely be arranging something for themselves. With this in mind, why not speak to your neighbors about collaborating to help one another with your pets?

When you go away, your neighbor or friend can come and check on the pets for you or even take them into their own home if that works out better. Then, when it comes to their turn to go on vacation, you can return the favor and take care of their pets for them. In this way, you’ll always have someone around that you know and trust to look after your pets.

Pet Hotel

A pet hotel might not be the ideal solution for you if you’re worried that your dog, cat, hamster, or snake could feel homesick or get anxious if they are not in familiar surroundings. If this isn’t a problem, then booking your animal into a pet hotel is a great way to ensure they are well looked after and safe whenever you go away anywhere.

At the pet hotel, the staff will be used to taking care of all kinds of creatures, and they will know how to comfort those who might be a little lonely or anxious at first. Plus, if anything happens and your animal needs medical care, you can have full confidence that the staff will know just what to do, and you can have a great break away without worrying.

Take Them with You

Although it won’t be appropriate in all cases, especially if you’re going on a beach vacation with your family, for example, sometimes you might be able to take your pet with you when you head off.

Taking a dog on a road trip, for example, is a great idea, as you’ll have company and they will get to be with you at all times. The key to this idea is to consider the pet and not your own feelings. No matter how much you might want them with you, if it’s not going to be fair for the animal, it’s best to leave them at home.
